As promised, here is the story of my two adoptions of my kitties from Alina and Anda.

In addition to this, you need to know more about it.

I grew up in the countryside and have always been surrounded by animals; my grandfather was a dog trainer for the Swiss army, and we have always had 2-3 German Shepherds at home.

I therefore cannot live without animals and I have a particular passion for dogs.

After the death of my little dog Jack Russel who, exceptionally, died of old age at the age of 21, I came across the facebook page of "Sabine Dog adoptions from Romania" and fell in love with Flash, which I renamed Elsa, (in honor of one of the German Shepherds we had at home and with whom I had a very close relationship)

I fell in love with his photo and also his story; because she seemed so like to want to pass these bars, and she had lived through hell in the street, in an industrial area of Bucharest, fighting for herself and her 5 little ones, to survive.

In addition to this, you need to know more about it.

Unfortunately the little ones, very young, all succumbed to some kind of infectious disease, from what I understand.

In addition to this, you need to know more about it.

Elsa must have been less than a year old and she found herself there, behind bars, without her children, unhappy ...

So I did everything to adopt it and we went to look for it at the Swiss border in Alsace.

When the truck finally arrived, my heart was pounding so hard and I was holding myself back from crying with joy when it was hugged!

After a long journey from Bucharest to Alsace in a small cage, and then from Alsace to Bern in Switzerland, my love of Elsa was exhausted and discovered the old town of Bern; when we walked from the station to my house, she had all her senses on the alert and barked at the mannequins in the window

Arrived in the apartment, she discovered her new house and her toys, her treats and her bed which were already ready; she still preferred to come and lie down on my bed with me then she slept for at least 12 hours, completely exhausted.

She is a very soft and tactile little bitch, who loves to lick and kiss. She struggled with people and other dogs at first, especially men in dark clothes and / or with something on their heads, children and retriever.

In addition to this, you need to know more about it.

For cleanliness, at the beginning she did everything inside and nothing outside, then, by dint of taking her out regularly and always at the same times and by dint of rewards when she was outside, after a week she was completely clean.

Over time, a few sessions with a behaviorist, a lot of patience and perseverance and love, she has calmed down, she is intelligent and has understood that here she has nothing more to fear. On the other hand, I must always be careful if you meet children; she had to go through traumas in the street with her 5 little ones, the children had to mistreat her and try to steal her little ones…

As with the old Elsa, we have a very close relationship and I love her with all my heart.

Little Babush arrived a little over a year later.

The little one has been abandoned in a building courtyard, and I don't think I have to explain to you why I cracked on his little love face.

Elsa needed a companion and I adopted him.

At first Elsa showed him who the boss in the house is and didn't accept him right away. I showed him who the pack leader is, and they finally got along, after about a month; now they play together and even have papouilles from time to time.

Little Babush was afraid of the stairs, of the water, and he was very shy. Thanks to Elsa who showed him how, he quickly overcame his anxieties and revealed his cheeky little rascal character; I call him my little sir.

He is less cuddly than Elsa and does not lick, but he is a little boy's love

I am grateful to have them in my life!

A lot of potential adopters have a lot of questions about adopting a foreign street dog, which I can very well understand is our story.

Sunny greetings from Bern in Switzerland!

Emmanuelle, Elsa and Babush

In addition to this, you need to know more about it.

The story of Valérie and Virgule

The photo that made Valérie crack

Adopted on October 21, 2017 when she was 2 years old.

I remember the arrival of the truck and this very emotional moment when your future companion is released to you. Finally I can hug her.

In addition to this, you need to know more about it.

When the dogs arrive they are tired and a little confused, so we got to know each other quietly.

The first evening, I installed her in the living room with my other dog because the meeting went very well. I left the transport crate with her dodo in the room so that she could rest there if she wanted to.

Initially the outings in the garden were done on a leash. At first she didn't do her business but then no worries, she had to get used to it. Every evening we went for a walk on a leash with my other dog.

When I felt that she understood that she was at home, she went into the garden without a leash but under my supervision anyway. You have to stay vigilant about running away and then it goes quickly.

In addition to this, you need to know more about it.

And then you have to give time to time.

Talk to them a lot, repeat the key words that will be used for the future. They don't know our language, so we have to teach them. Especially during walks on a leash, it helps for the future for recall etc. They are very endearing dogs but they just need the time to understand that we only want their happiness and little by little they will become attached to you.

Take them a lot for walks, in town, to restaurants, meet other dogs etc. to socialize them as much as possible and make them gain confidence.

For my part, I work in positive education when it obeys well, as soon as it does something good: a little treat or a big congratulation accompanied by big hugs and it works wonderfully.

In addition to this, you need to know more about it.

Comma is my first experience as a Romanian dog, I previously had two dogs, one that I had also adopted as an adult and then a puppy bought in breeding. I had some notions of dog training but our little Romanians are a bit apart, you just have to be patient but then they give without limit.

In addition to this, you need to know more about it.

The story of Catherine and her two bitches: Diva and Indra

I am Diva and Indra's adoptive parent from Alina and Anda Murgu's refuge.

For a very long time, I wanted to save a dog from Romania. I had promised myself that it would happen one day without knowing when or how, but it was somewhere in my head. And I subscribed to the D'alina shelter page, and I followed Sabine's publications, telling myself that one day, one of these poor dogs would join my pack. I believe that this idea trotted in my head for a few years until the day I saw the photo of the beautiful Indra, in her transit enclosure, in the company of her 2 daughters Inga and Indy. And, there, the blow of heart. And everything accelerated in my head. Am I going for it, is this the right time? As I age, I'm lucky to have a job with staggered hours which leaves me half-days free. Well, I already have 3 dogs and cats but all my animals are sociable, with golden characters.

I thought about it but not too long because I would have asked myself too many questions. And, after a few days of reflection, my decision is made, I apply for adoption for Indra. Sabine contacts me and tells me that there is already a request in progress for Indra. Disappointment but still happy for her because she apparently found her family.

Still determined to save one of these dogs, I continue to look at Sabine's publications and I come across Diva and her gaze so sad that it touches me deep inside.

I therefore warn Sabine that my choice fell on Diva and, there, Sabine tells me that the adoption of Indra fell through.

What do I do ? I drop Diva and come back to my first crush? No, impossible, I would have the impression of abandoning her and betraying her. In agreement with Sabine, I decide to maintain my request for Diva, who is no longer in a hurry because she has health problems.

The file is sent to the Remember Me association and the date of the pre-visit is fixed. Everything went well and my request is accepted. We still raise the fence a few centimeters.

The arrival date is first set for August 19, it seems to me, then postponed to September 2, 2017.

I am impatiently waiting, I postponed my 2 week leave to be able to stay with her as much as possible, the time she begins to adapt.

The fateful day arrives, I feel more and more nervous and impatient. And there, the questions flow. Didn't I make a mistake in adopting a dog that I have never seen, whose past we do not know? Is everything going to be okay with my other animals? Am I going to be able to manage?

Anyway, I can't back down any longer. We must go for it.

We leave, with a friend, at 9 o'clock in the morning, from Guérigny, in the Nièvre (58) because arrivals in the Paris region are always very delicate. After a lunch break in a small Portuguese restaurant, we arrive in Sèvres around 3 p.m. Other adopters are starting to arrive.

The arrival time is here and the news is not great. The truck has broken down on the turbo on the highway and will be late.

Finally, the truck arrives after 7 p.m. And all these little hearts are there after a long trip of 3 days. Many are frightened and look around, bewildered.

And finally, the turn of my Diva arrives, and her gaze capsizes my heart. Driver and volunteers put on his harness and collar. She is scared and does not want to get out of the truck.

But, after a few moments, she comes. We give her a drink, let her do her business, and head for the Nièvre.

She climbs alone in the trunk and we make the return trip in peace.

When we get home, Praline, my adorable Pyrenean crossbreed dog, Australian Shepherd, turns around her, wagging her tail, but not insisting. My 2 cockers are hardly interested. It's late and we leave the 2 large ones together in the living room with the veranda door open. The night is going well.

In the morning, I realize that there is blood in Diva's urine. I also specify that she suffered from what appeared to be demodicosis. She had been without urinating for a long time during the trip, I don't worry more than that.

All the bitches were separated at mealtime because Diva could be aggressive when distributing the bowls. Fortunately, she attacked cocker spaniel several times without biting them. The little ones were terrified and didn't want to come near her. Praline, meanwhile, was in observation mode, and at the slightest signal reversed. It lasted a short week and little by little Praline got closer and tried to play with Diva who ended up agreeing to play. They have become the best friends in the world.

I took Diva to the vet for her problem with blood in her urine and her skin problem. It turned out that she had a huge stone in her bladder and that she suffered from many allergies, grasses, mites… the list goes on. She was operated on for her stone and underwent special diet and treatment for her allergies. Her hair grew back and she became beautiful.

We started walking in the woods (I'm lucky enough to live on the edge of the forest) on a leash, then very quickly, I let go. She is a very obedient and very intelligent dog. Little by little, the tensions with the cocker spaniel have eased but the meals are still separate. I noticed that when I walked her with Praline (who, she absolutely does not obey and is always attached) she was much more relaxed.

The arrival of Diva therefore went wonderfully well, but there was always a shadow on the board. Not a day goes by that I don't think of Indra. I regularly sent little words to Sabine to find out if there were any requests for her. But still the same answer, nothing for the moment.

So, in November 2017, it was decided, I re-apply for Indra. No need to make a file, or pre-visit, my request is accepted. During December, a hard blow, Sabine telephones me to tell me that Indra has heartworm at an advanced stage and that she will not be able to be part of the December repatriation. He needs three months of shock treatment and rest. I ask my vet for advice, but the disease is not very well known in the region. So I made the decision to board her until her arrival on March 24, 2018.

So, on March 24, there was a start again, departure at 9 am and even a stop in the small Portuguese restaurant. And this time, the truck arrived on time with an already very comfortable Indra, who was getting on her back to be stroked on her stomach. A lady even asked me if she had just been adopted so much she went from one to the other, all wriggling, happy.

The return went well, the arrival at home too.

Everything was going so well that I let my guard down, and one evening when I was going to lock up my hens, they came with me every 2 and Diva jumped on Indra. They fought and I was able to separate them by throwing the water bowl at them. They suffered only small wounds, Indra, grazed on the side and Diva, in the ear, nothing serious. But I dared not leave them alone and therefore separated them during the nights and my absences. After a few days I left them together again and Indra understood very well that Diva was the dominant one and there were never any more concerns. The agreement is not in good shape between Praline and Indra, but Praline avoids the confrontation.

Last November Indra broke her tibia, was operated on and next June, I'm bringing her back to remove the plate and the pin.

The walks with her are more complicated. I let go, no worries, but when she's decided to turn around and go home, she runs off. And for over a year, she still does not fit in the rooms because she does not want to walk on the floor. It starts to come very slowly. She manages to put all 4 legs on it.

In short, I had wonderful adventures with these 2 adorable Romanian women. I saw them evolve very quickly, change their look, play, be silly. I have my singer Diva, who does vocalizations every time she gets on the bed and my dancer, Indra, who hops on her hind legs forwards and backwards, hence her slip, fall and fracture of the tibia. . I don't regret having finally taken the plunge and I'm even ready to start over with a little senior.

To all those who have questions, do not hesitate, ask Sabine, she will advise you according to your expectations, your lifestyle. These dogs are wonderful, intelligent, They are eager to learn and will return you a hundredfold for all the love you can give them. My only regret ? To have waited so long to make up my mind.

The story of Carole and her dog Diesel

The photos of the refuge that made Carole crack
Diesel au refuge.jpg
diesel refuge.png

Diesel: arrived in France on May 5, 2018, at almost 1 year old (at the shelter since he was a baby).

I got to know the shelter thanks to a couple of friends who adopted a dog there. I regularly looked at the posts of the dogs at the shelter that they shared on Facebook.

A good face attracted me for a little while, but already having two dogs at home, I dared not take the plunge. And then having three young children at home (and pregnant with the 4th year), I was afraid that this dog could be too fearful or even aggressive if my children were agitated.

And then one day in April 2018, a video where we see Diesel with the four irons in the air charming Alina by squirming for hugs definitely made me crack. This video took away all my fears, this dog was necessarily a formidable loulou.

I sent a message to Sabine who answered me very quickly. After a phone interview and a pre-visit, I was happy to learn that my Diesel would soon be joining my family.

The arrival of the truck is a moment of intense emotion. That's it, my Diesel points the tip of his nose and jumps directly on me. The acquaintances are made, he is delighted to come out of his cage. On the other hand, he is afraid of my husband who has crutches following a fracture. This fear will last a few days, but even today, with my husband he obeys his finger and his eye (even without raising his voice) while with me he always tries to soften me with his paws in my hand. or licking.

For the return trip, it is impossible to put it in the transport crate that we have planned. He categorically refuses. We have to carry it as best we can (35 kgs anyway for a pregnant woman and a man on crutches ☺) to put it in the car and tie it in the trunk. He does not move during the 2 hours of driving.

We arrive home in the middle of the night. He is happy to stretch his paws in our garden (on a leash of course) and defecate before entering the house. There he got to know the rest of the 4 legs (the 2 bitches and the 2 cats). Everything is going well. We go to bed, he settles directly in our room, like the others.

The first days, we get to know each other. He observes a lot (especially as with us with 3 young children things are quite stirred). It follows my old dog a lot (which is very well coded) and imitates her a lot.

We discover a dog obsessed with food, nothing should be left lying around otherwise it will climb everywhere to catch it and eat it. Even today, this behavior is still present (probably related to the fact that he lacked food or his instinct as a street dog). We had to review our way of feeding him because he swallowed his bowl in 30 seconds and was always hungry afterwards. So, we invested in a digging mat so that he eats slowly. When the weather is nice, I hide food in the garden for him to use his flair to search. Or, I use part of the daily ration as a reward for certain exercises.

Diesel was immediately clean. As soon as we took him out, he used to do his business in the garden. The accidents were very rare and linked to the fact that I did not know how to interpret the fact that when he walks in circles in the house, it means that he wants to go out (my bitches they stand in front of the door).

In the garden, we were able to quickly remove the leash. He never tried to cross the fence. Yet he jumps high. The long walks went well right away. He loves it and doesn't shoot. On the other hand, at the beginning he barked at everything: cows, horses, cars ... The car, moreover, after 1 month, he got into it alone because he quickly understood that car meant a new ride. Now he loves it and is still the first inside. I can't let go of him just anywhere on a walk. Indeed, he has a strong instinct of predation (and even got hit with his hoof by a horse he was running and grabbed by the leg, fortunately without gravity). And when he leaves after an animal (or even a motorbike or a bicycle), although he has a good reminder, in these moments there, he no longer hears me and could put himself or someone in danger. I don't know if this behavior is related to the fact that he was not socialized properly when he was a puppy or if it is just his instinct. Also he wants to go see all the dogs we meet to play and arrives at them like a cannonball (which can scare the owner of the other dog). We are working all this with a behaviorist. Progress is still small but very present. So, I leave him free in safe places.

On the education side, with Diesel it's pretty easy. As he is addicted to food, he quickly understood that when he does what I ask him, he has a treat or a caress (that too he loves !!). To work with it, I use a "clicker", associated with a treat. I work for the reward (and not the sanction). Anyway, if you get angry with him, he's scared and isn't doing anything right. So, we stay zen.

The basic orders were quickly assimilated. Now I can even put a bowl of candy in front of Diesel without him touching it.

At the moment, with the behaviorist, we are working on self-controls (still difficult for Diesel but with great progress) and on predation.

Diesel is a very endearing dog. He loves hugs and never has enough (he makes up for it in his life before). With my children it is a cream, it is just a little rough at times (normal for a young dog weighing 35 kgs) and can hurt them without doing it on purpose (eg knocking my daughter down when passing by). He still uses my old dog as a role model and has developed a strong friendship with my 3 kg chihuahua (the two play a lot together and Diesel is gentle with it). He is very attached to us and follows us everywhere. And we adore it. Two weeks ago, he gave me great proof of his attachment to me. I was walking him on a rope when he saw a dog in the distance. I was not suspicious and suddenly, when he went like a rocket on the dog, I did not anticipate and I took off behind Diesel, still with the lanyard in hand. In short, a nice fall for me (fortunately in the fields). When he sensed that I had fallen, Diesel stopped dead in his tracks and came back to me sheepishly and in licking mode instead of going to see the dog. If that's not love !!!

May 5, 2019: one year that you are with us my Diesel. A year of happiness with you (good also with some nonsense anyway ☺). Adopting you has been a fabulous experience. And if one day I wanted to take another dog, without hesitation, I will once again go through the albums of the hairy people of Alina and Anda's refuge.
