THE CLEANLINESS

"This advice sheet is only intended to help you but does not replace the advice of a behaviorist or participation in a kennel club". The post also remains open to everyone to share your experiences.

Not to do :
- Put his muzzle in it
- Shout at him
- Punish him

Take into account :
- The age of the dog: it is only around 4 or 5 months that the puppy will have the most control over the muscles of his sphincter, but for all that, he could not hold back for more than 1 hour. Likewise, if it is an old dog, it happens that the body does not function as well and the dog will be able to restrain itself for a shorter time or even become incontinent.

- Your absences

- Fixed times for food will allow more of the needs at regular times.

- His activities: a puppy in particular will often want to relieve himself just after waking up or after playing. So when the puppy wakes up -> head for the garden or down the building at high speed!

In order for cleanliness to be acquired peacefully, positive reinforcement must be used: preventing your dog from defecating in the house and rewarding him when he does so outside.

- Take it out regularly: Every hour to start! As noted, after waking up and after play, the dog often feels the urge to defecate. Then, you can set him up on a regular schedule, especially in an apartment. Leave him alone at the time of the outing, and then, when he is done, continue the ride and have him play, so that these outings are moments of pleasure.

- Congratulate the dog immediately: when it's outside! Do not be afraid of ridicule or the eyes of your neighbors. When your dog pauses his pee / popo on the grass, congratulate him with "Ouiiii, c'est bien!". You can also give him a reward.

- Some people have disposable mattress pads or newspaper for their puppies, which they gradually move towards the door leading to the outside. This can be interesting for very small puppies who cannot hold back for more than a few minutes and thus "control" accidents.

You must also be attentive to all the signs that show that the dog wants to go out: going in circles, barking, scratching the door, coming to see you, freezing in front of the door ... understand! You can also congratulate these signs because we are happy to be able to understand them and it is a real form of communication.

And finally, keep patience! Our puppies do not have the same maturity, our Romanians can also have fears of the outside ... etc. Good luck !
